- VGC - sl crses all over but nothing too bad, thin line of cellotape along bottom edge unobtrusively. The Oldham squad went on a summer tour of Rhodesia in July 67, arranged by chairman Ken Bates (with beard), and here they are meeting Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Ian Smith. A year or two earlier Smith had declared UDI from Britain and had links to the apartheid regime in South Africa, so the UK government were firmly against any sporting tours to places like this. There was nothing that could be done about tours by "private citizens" and so Bates, who had business interests in the country, and his club got away with it. They played 9 matches in Rhodesia and another 2 in neighbouring Malawi, losing only once.
